Biology Additional Resources
I'll be posting some cool biology-related videos and links here for your continued learning. You can take a page of Cornell Notes on the videos to make up a lab you missed or get some extra credit.
I strongly recommend Bill Bryson's book, A Short History of Nearly Everything. It's my favorite science book out there. Available at the library or Amazon.
I also really like The Genome War by James Shreeve about the race to crack the human genome. Also available at the library or Amazon.
E. coli bacteria have been shown to be able to evolve to metabolize citrate. (read the full paper here) It only took them 20 years and 31,500 generations and was made possible by a whole series of mutations beginning with one around generation 20,000, all of which were observed and saved in the lab. Lesson: evolution takes a really long time and genetic drift occurs by chance.
